World/Politics: U.S. Military Operation in VenezuelaThe dominant story is the recent U.S. intervention in Venezuela, where American forces captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on January 3. Maduro has been indicted on drug and weapons charges in New York and is currently detained. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez is acting as interim president.

President Trump has stated the U.S. intends to “run” Venezuela and exploit its oil resources, with oil companies like Chevron, ExxonMobil, and ConocoPhillips reportedly planning meetings with the administration. International reactions are mixed: Russia, China, and Iran have condemned it as a violation of sovereignty, while a Reuters/Ipsos poll shows only about one-third of Americans support the action. The UN Secretary-General expressed deep concern over potential instability, and analysts note risks of regime-change backlash.Trump’s comments have also sparked speculation about further ambitions, including Greenland, Cuba, and Colombia.

India unveils first made-in-country chips at major summit

India achieved a landmark moment at Semicon India 2025 as Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced 13 major semiconductor initiatives, marking the country’s transition from policy approvals to tangible chip production. The three-day conference showcased India’s ambition to become a global semiconductor powerhouse through strategic partnerships and substantial investment commitments.

The highlight of the event came when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with the first set of Made-in-India chips from a pilot line, symbolizing the fruition of the India Semiconductor Mission launched in December 2021. Vaishnaw described this achievement as “a moment of pride,” crediting the Prime Minister’s vision for transforming India from a chip consumer to a manufacturer in just three and a half years.

The Government of India, along with the Ministry of AYUSH, has made sure that the official theme of 2025 is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” This theme focuses on the interconnected advantage of yoga, not only for personal physical and mental wellness but also for planetary and ecological well-being

Reflecting on appeals for sustainability, this theme addresses the potential of yoga to encourage integral health, integrating individual well-being with comprehensive stewardship of the environment.

Through the invitation by MyGov to citizens to suggest a theme and define the theme’s meaning in terms of essays and other submissions, the Government underscores the official and broad-based character of the theme. The activities worldwide, from India to Chad to Canada, are being conducted under the theme of “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” such as ecological yoga classes, online summits, tree-planting drives, and lead classes under the Common Yoga Protocol
