Mobile cleaning tips

he smartphone has become an inseparable part of our lives in the time of the Covid lockdown. Be it work calls, zoom meetings, shopping for essentials or streaming entertainment, it is the one device where all the action is. Here’s how to keep it running.

How to help disinfect your phone from coronavirus without damaging ...

CLEANING PROTOCOL

With the coronavirus believed to live on surfaces for several hours, it is important to clean the phone frequently to prevent the virus from getting transferred to the hands or face. Apple recommends gently wiping the phone exterior with a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or disinfecting wipes. Do not use bleach or other strong cleaning solutions, as they can cause abrasions on the sensitive phone screen. Ensure the moisture does not leak into any openings in the phone and never submerge it in cleaning agents–water-resistant phones can be wiped with soapy water. Use lens cloths to wipe the phone.

USE HEADPHONES

This is a must if you are speaking on the phone for long periods of time. It helps you keep the phone screen away from the face, eyes and mouth.

UNBLOCK YOUR PHONE STORAGE

Delete videos, audio clips and photos you do not need, move the rest to Google Photos, or upload to the Google account storage. iPhone users can shift heavy photos and videos to iCloud stores and access them on all Apple devices. Unwanted forwarded messages should be deleted as a matter of habit after being viewed.

KEEP IT COOL

Samsung says a phone battery performs oprtimally between 0 and 35 degree Celsius. With the summer approaching, do not keep a phone in a very hot environment such as in a closed car or out in the sun for long periods of time.ADVERTISEMENT

PRESERVE THE BATTERY

Some apps consume a lot of battery. Go to App History to find these battery-draining apps. Either upgrade to their latest version or put them to sleep. If you are unlikely to use them frequently, uninstall them.

DO NOT OVERCHARGE

To increase battery life, avoid going from zero to 100 per cent charge. Ending a charge at 80 per cent is believed to keep the battery healthier. Do not charge the phone overnight.
